Rubber Chicken in Space

The sun had severe radiation storms in the last month. Satellite stoned various particles. Aurora shines strongly on both poles of the earth. High-school students in Bishop, California, United States knew what to do. They launched a rubber chicken into the stratosphere.

The students are flying helium balloon shaped and contains a toy rubber chicken named Camilla. Mascot Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) was sent to 120 thousand feet altitude. Chicken will be exposed to the power of solar proton energy at close range.

"We complement Camilla with radiation sensors," Bishop said high-school student, Sam Johnson as quoted in the pages Nasa.gov.

The launch of a rubber chicken to measure the solar storms may sound strange. However, these students have an interesting reason. They're doing a project astrobiology.

"Later this year we plan to launch a microbial species to see if they can live on the space limit. This is a reconnaissance flight," said group member Rachel Molina is just 17 years old.

Outer space a lot of fans who are familiar with the figure of Camilla. Chicken has become the mascot of NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory. With the help of the guard from Stanford University, Romeo Durscher, Camilla has over 20,000 twitter followers, Facebook, and Google +. About the contents of the status of NASA's latest mission. Apparently, this chicken is also popular in the world of cyberspace.
